In the closing years of the 2010s, podcasting rose in prominence in the United States, both on the listener and production side. Many media organizations and individuals rushed into the space and started putting “any ol’ thing” out there so that they could try to get listeners be relevant. The technical and content quality these efforts have varied widely.
Since began my media career in radio in the 1990s as a journalist and show producer, I even approach my video productions with the ear of a radio broadcaster…what is being said and how it’s being said is supremely important; your programing should always sound good and convey the message that you want in the best way possible. So, of course, when I produce audio-only content, I’m going to make sure that the production levels are top notch and that tried and true conventions and techniques are followed if/when I create, edit, voice, or voice a podcast.
Here are some of the recent podcasts that I’ve help present to the world and the various roles I’ve played and getting them created.
“Talking with Authors” for HEC Media
This program is a production of HEC Media with cooperation of independent bookstore Left Bank Books and the St. Louis County Library. This show features interviews with NYT Best Selling authors, other writers and thought leaders that do sit-down, on-camera talks with different interviewers. I’ve occasionally conducted some of the interviews, but I mostly produce the audio, write and voice the podcast version, and publish it all to all the platforms and do the social media posts.
